At the end of this year's Tour de France, Team Visma | Lease a Bike was in top form: Belgian rider Wout van Aert triumphed with a spectacular solo victory on the Champs-Élysées. His Danish teammate Jonas Vingegaard also finished second overall, securing his place on the podium for the fifth time in a row and confirming his exceptional status in international cycling.
A bold attack on the cobbled climb of Montmartre, a determined solo ride over the wet asphalt of Paris and, in the end, a well-deserved triumph on cycling's most prestigious finish line: Wout van Aert won the final stage of the 2025 Tour de France in impressive fashion.
The 30-year-old Belgian from Team Visma | Lease a Bike countered an attack by Tour overall winner Tadej Pogačar in the final of the 21st stage and shortly afterwards launched the decisive attack himself. Six kilometres before the finish, van Aert took the lead – and did not relinquish it until the finish on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. For the classics specialist, it was his tenth stage victory in the Tour de France.
‘We really gave it our all every single day on this tour. Even today, the team had complete faith in me,’ said van Aert at the finish line.
"We were able to control the stage, and on the final climb, I just went all out. That was the plan – and it worked. I wanted to do the same on other stages. A few times I was close, but there were also days when I was really far off. The hardest part was not losing faith in myself – but my team never stopped believing in me. Today it finally paid off," said the Belgian.
Van Aert's teammate Jonas Vingegaard also finished the 2025 Tour de France with a strong result: the 27-year-old Dane came in second overall, securing his fifth consecutive podium finish in the Tour de France – a level of consistency that has firmly established him among the sport's elite. Although he was once again beaten by the outstanding Tadej Pogačar this year, Vingegaard once again demonstrated his class and tactical maturity – even after his serious crash in the spring.
Vingegaard and van Aert were not the only highlights of the Dutch team: Britain's Simon Yates won the tenth stage. Belgium's Victor Campenaerts finished second on the 15th stage. The team also won the overall team classification. CEO Richard Plugge was understandably proud of his team:
The next big highlight for Team Visma | Lease a Bike is the Tour of Spain from August 23rd to September 14th.
